Homerton Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (RNRU) benefitted from two lots of Nabarro volunteers this month.
On 1 July 2009, Lindsey Elliot and Pamela Rookard volunteered to tidy up the RNRU patient's garden in time for their annual BBQ on 8 July 2009. A group of trainees: Lucinda Reid, James Realff and Andrew Lewis, then went along to the BBQ to help with the general setting up and to produce and run games throughout the day for the patients and guests.
Both days were a great success. The gardeners did a sterling job of cutting back, clearing and pruning to make the garden look fantastic for the BBQ. The helpers at the BBQ used their ingenuity and creativity to design and build a number of games, including "Splat the Rat" and "Hook the Duck", and ran them enthusiastically throughout the day.
The RNRU were very complimentary about the volunteers, saying that the gardeners effected an "amazing transformation of our garden" and of the BBQ helpers that they "were very keen and hard working" and "livened up our annual barbeque with their enthusiasm and some fantastic games".
