Corporate Responsibility: A reflection of our commitment

Hampton Village - Charity Dinner Dance 2008

The Firm was well represented at the third annual Charity Dinner Dance held in support of Hampton Village –Sri Lanka on Saturday 12 July at the Lensbury Country Club in Teddington, Middlesex.

Nicky Paradise, Belinda Solomon, Deborah Parry, Maria Fernandes, Sarah Hunt, Andrew Wigfall, David Sargison, Chris Rushworth, Russell Stevens, Mo Rehmatullah, Daryl Atkinson, Joanne McKay, Lily Bednikov, Debbi Simon and Angela Orphanou joined over 170 other guests and Dr Upali Wickrama-Sekera (Founder and Chief Executive of the Project) and Dr Vince Cable, local MP and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats (Patron of the Project) in celebrating the establishment of the Village and in raising funds for its ingoing support and development.

Guests were photographed on arrival and welcomed with a champagne reception. Nicky Paradise and David Sargison assisted with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp that was followed by two minutes silence in memory of the tsunami victims, the Sri Lankan National Anthem and the Hampton Village – Sri Lanka Song, which Belinda Solomon had worked hard to learn in advance!

A sumptuous dinner followed after which guests were entertained by a Kandyan dance recital. Speeches by Dr Upali, Vince Cable (both of whom thanked the Firm profusely for its support) and Nicky Paradise preceded the official launching of Hampton Village – Sri Lanka Website by Nicky Paradise – a technically challenging task! The Firm is the main sponsor of the Website (www.hamptonvillagesrilanka.com) and has promised to assist in its future development.

The evening continued with a raffle (most of the tickets for which seemed to be bought by Andrew Wigfall), an auction and much dancing to the sounds of the 60s and 70s, very ably provided by members of the Rotary Club of Grantham (a major donor to the Project).

A number of guests also agreed on the night to sponsor the education of 17 children living in the Village that brings the total number sponsored to date to 46 and now only leaves 9 children to be sponsored. Further details about the educational sponsorship scheme are available from David Sargison.

The evening was a great success both socially and financially for the Project and those present representing Nabarro were able to confirm how proud the Firm is of its association with the Village.
