Corporate Responsibility: A reflection of our commitment

Nabarro Summer of Sport wins Master Cutler Challenge Award

The Master Cutler Challenge Awards dinner took place at Cutlers Hall on Thursday 28 September. The awards evening was in celebration of the funds raised during the course of the challenge. The Master Cutler announced that over £50,000 was raised by the teams - a range of schools and businesses across Sheffield and the city region. The Master Cutler’s Challenge is a call to caring businesses and educational establishments to commit to innovative and entrepreneurial fundraising. The funds raised from the Master Cutler’s £50 cash investment are used to help improve the employment prospects of 1000 young people in the Sheffield city region.

Nabarro took part in the Master Cutler Challenge for the first time this year and devised the "Nabarro Summer of Sport". This involved a Wimbledon windown, time blitz squash, a night at the races and the blue ribbon event - the Office Olympics. Each event was a great success and we were delighted to be able to raise over £5,500 for the fantastic cause. Not only that - at the Awards dinner we managed to scoop the Most Innovative and Entrepreneurial Award for our use of the sporting theme as a connecting thread across all our events. The decision to use a sporting theme was in the spirit of the Master Cutler Challenge, as sport focuses on the need for team work, dedication, and commitment – all characteristics that are described as being fundamental in the Master Cutler Challenge.

Being a part of this challenge has been extremely worthwhile, not only due to the amount of money raised for such a deserving cause but because of the work that we have been doing in the manufacturing sector. It successfully built on the firm's sponsorship of the Global Manufacturing Festival: Sheffield in March 2011 and the work we continue to do with the local schools, business and the Work Wise initiative.

The Nabarro team that undertook the Master Cutler Challenge included Martin McKervey, Andrea Cropley, Aneliese Martindale, Rebecca Breen, Jenny Whipps, Helen Delaney Gill, Jeremy Thompson, Elizabeth Webster and Dan Jones.
