As one of LandAid's foundation partners, Nabarro hosted an "Employ Me" day with national charity Fairbridge on 25 May 2010 to give a group of young people the chance to see what working in a law firm is really like.
Fairbridge have a number of centres around the country and work with disadvantaged young people to help them develop the skills they need to get into work and training. They run severalĀ "Employ Me" weeks throughout the year to give young people the chance to visit a number of employers and gain an insight into the world of work.
Nabarro hosted one such day for a group of seven young people, with the aim of showing them that there are many different routes into a career at a law firm. Our HR team ran a number of skills sessions for the group, including a CV writing session, interview techniques, and a session on how to present yourself in a business environment. A Senior Associate from one of our Real Estate teams, Keeley Ellaway, spoke to the group about her career at Nabarro and a group of our trainees had lunch with the young people and took them on a tour of the office. On the tour, the young people were able to talk to people in various departments to find out about their roles and how they got to where they are. Our aim was to show the group that there are a huge variety of jobs in a law firm - it's not just all lawyers!
The group said that the day was a really positive experience and that they gained a lot from experiencing working in a business environment. They hope to take away skills to prepare them for interviews in the future. All the people from Nabarro who were involved were keen to give their time for the privilege of meeting these fantastic young people and seeing the amazing work that Fairbridge does.
