On 12 June, Nabarro launched a free legal advice clinic at St Luke’s, Old Street. The clinic was brokered by LawWorks, and is being run under the management of IPR, a voluntary organisation based in Islington, which offers independent advice and representation on all aspects of welfare benefits and money advice including rent or mortgage arrears and debt. The firm has 70 volunteers, from secretaries to partners, taking part in the scheme.
The clinic runs every Wednesday evening and local people can come in to ask advice on a range of subjects from housing to employment issues.
Senior partner, Simon Johnston said:
"The project has moved forward very quickly form our initial meetings with Law Works and we are all very pleased with progress to date. We are grateful to both LawWorks and IPR for the tremendous amount of help they have given us in this process. The volunteers have found the work thoroughly rewarding and we were pleased so many people at the firm wanted to be involved. ”
Paul Newdick, Chair of LawWorks welcomed the new clinic and congratulated Nabarro and IPR for their hard work in establishing such a valuable local resource. Paul Newdick said “This latest clinic joins the 79 others that LawWorks facilitates throughout England and Wales and is a further tribute to the willingness of lawyers and others to assist those in need of our help.”
Ahmad Butt Director at IPR said:
“St Luke’s centre, based in Bunhill Ward EC1, is in a seriously deprived area right on the edge of the City of London. The contribution by the Nabarro team to the provision of high quality legal advice in this area, to those least able to pay for such a service, cannot be commended highly enough. Over the coming year, hundreds of local residents will greatly benefit from this service.”
