Nabarro supports 'International Lawyers Project' training programme in Tanzania
Ed Morgan from the Indirect Investment Team took part in the International Lawyers Project's training programme in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania during the first week of November together with a number of UK solicitors from other City law firms. The programme, run by the International Lawyers Project in conjunction with the Tanzanian Ministry of Justice, the Tanganyika Law Society and the recently established Tanzanian School of Law, was attended by Tanzanian lawyers and consisted of a series of interactive seminars and workshops on practice management, anti-money laundering, commercial contracts, asset finance and insolvency.
The seminars and workshops took place at the British Council and were delivered by solicitors from Nabarro, Clifford Chance, DLA, Freshfields, Simmons & Simmons and Sherwood Consulting. The programme was enthusiastically received by the Tanzanian delegates who comprised of junior lawyers, partners, judiciary and even the former head of the Tanzanian police force! The interactive nature of the seminars and workshops was popular with the delegates who are accustomed to a more "chalk and talk" style of teaching. Various social events were also organised including a reception hosted by the British High Commissioner, Philip Parham.
The International Lawyers Project, a registered charity in the UK, is a legal pro bono initiative created in 2005 by a number of top City law firms including Nabarro with the aim of promoting the sound administration of justice and proper administration of the law in developing countries. It seeks to do this by promoting legal education and training to lawyers in those countries. Partner Clare Grayston from Corporate has been working with The International Lawyers Project since its inception and was heavily involved with the Tanzanian programme.
