Corporate Responsibility: A reflection of our commitment

Nabarro volunteers help out on International Women's Day

On 12 March 2010, two Nabarro volunteers, Zainab Azeez and Paula McLean, assisted the Marchmont Street Community Centre with the running of a local event for International Women's Day.

International Women's Day is a global event which celebrates women all over the world with events, seminars and presentations run for and by women. Here in Holborn, a number of local organisations got together to organise an event at Coram's Fields. It included dance sessions, arts and crafts, reflexology, raffles and competitions. Our volunteers helped out as part of the team from Marchmont Community Centre, a local centre for elderly people with which Nabarro has strong volunteering links.

The girls were given a plethora of tasks - helping to move provisions from the Community Centre to the event, setting up stalls, putting up posters and information boards, preparing tables for lunch, serving food and tidying up at the end of the day. However, they were well rewarded with being able to chat to the other volunteers and attendees at the event, and were even treated to a reflexology session at the end of the day! Both of our volunteers felt that they were making a real difference, and commented that the event was "a great opportunity to contribute in a practical way to the needs of the community" and "an opportunity to learn about the different services available in Camden".
