Nabarro volunteers spruce up Islington's New River Walk

On 12 and 13 August 2009 two groups of volunteers from Nabarro used their Nabarro in the Community Day to help Islington's Environment and Regeneration Department tidy up New River Walk.

The volunteers donned hard hats and protective gloves before getting stuck into jobs which included felling a tree which was in danger of collapsing, clearing bushes and branches to allow greater access to walkways and to create "sight lines" to combat anti-social behaviour and piling loose vegetation and logs to create habitats for wildlife.

Feedback from the volunteers was extremely positive, with comments including: "It was nice to be out in the community - to see the locals and how they use the park. I actually learnt a lot from the ranger about social issues in Islington and the community generally."

"The day was informative, fun and I had not previously had the opportunity to fell a tree which was surprisingly (and perhaps worryingly) exciting."
