Corporate Responsibility: A reflection of our commitment

Sixth Form Link Up

On Wednesday 21 April, the Nabarro Sheffield office opened its doors to Year 11 pupils from the local Springs Academy Sixth Form. Springs Academy is a newly built school local to the Nabarro offices. It does not have a Careers Service, so we agreed to work with the young people to provide some practical guidance. Members of the Charities Committee and Development Centre led various sessions including time management skills, the Dos and Don’ts of giving presentations and university essentials. Members of staff from various practice areas and business functions also attended to impart their wisdom in the Panel Session, with questions ranging from "What path did you follow to achieve your career goals?" to "What skills are essential to succeed in business?"

Feedback from the teachers and pupils has been excellent. Tristan Marshall, the Head of Post-16 at Springs Academy, commented that:

"The students on returning to Sixth Form the following day could not speak highly enough of their experience and the manner in which they felt welcomed and given opportunity to participate in the fusion of activities. The students remarked on how professionally the whole event had been presented and I hope this will act as an inspiration to their own future personal aspiration and endeavours".

Both the school and the Nabarro volunteers are keen to repeat the event for future Year 11 classes at the Academy. The Charities Committee is also pursuing the possibility of setting up a mentoring scheme for the pupils who attended last month, to support them through their university applications and beyond.
