Nabarro's really got talent as Tina Buchan wins "Best Contribution" Pro Bono award!

We are delighted to announce that Tina Buchan, Legal Secretary to Nicky Paradise, has won the 'Best Contribution by an Individual' award at this year's LawWorks Pro Bono Awards. The awards celebrate the best legal Pro Bono activities undertaken by organisations and individuals and recognise the positive impact that they have made. Tina was nominated for the award following the dedication she has shown to the LawWorks Pro Bono Clinic over the last year. She organises Nabarro's weekly Advice Clinic at St Luke's Community Centre in Islington, and has been a great advocate for the Clinic within the firm.

The award, which was judged by Lord Goldsmith, Baroness Neuberger and Guardian journalist Marcel Berlins, is a significant achievement and reflects on the underlying strength and vision of both Tina Buchan, and of Nabarro's corporate social responsibility of which Pro Bono is an important element. LawWorks is the operating name of the Solicitors Pro Bono Group, and this is the first year that the organisation has awarded the "Best Individual" gong to a secretary.

The firm learnt a few months ago that Tina Buchan was one of only four people shortlisted for a prestigious LawWorks award in the "Best Contribution by an Individual" category. Last night, the awards were presented at a medieval-themed banquet and awards ceremony held at Inner Temple Hall. The seven people strong contingent from Nabarro was overjoyed when the President of the Law Society announced that the winner of the Best Individual Award 2009 was ... Tina Buchan! A "stunned and flattered" Tina received a standing ovation, and collected her impressive plate-glass trophy to cheers from the audience.

Everyone who has been involved with Islington Legal Advice Clinic, one of Nabarro's main Pro Bono initiatives, will have come into contact with Tina Buchan, a legal secretary in the Dispute Resolution team. Tina is the secretary to the Managing Partner, and somehow manages to find time in her hectic schedule to almost single-handedly set up and run a flourishing community legal advice clinic.
